zoological garden Schwerin
The Zoo is one of the most beautiful encounter between humans, animals and nature all within the capital city, Schwerin. Idyllically placed between two lakes (Schweriner See and Faulensee) you will find the beautiful Schweriner Zoo. It will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2016. It first started with only domestic animals (Heimtiergarten) in 1956 and later on in 1973 it got the offical name of Botanical Garden. Since then, the small but beautiful Zoo has become one of the best Zoo's in Germany. This is because of its animal welfare, representative animal population and it's natural finish. More than 220,000 visitors each year are coming to enjoy the 1,145 animals from 159 different species. There are several other attractions within an area of 22 hectar.
